Job Title: Network Engineer II
Employer: University Corporation for Atmospheric Research
Work Location: Boulder, Colorado (May work from home a few days a week from within commuting distance to UCAR).
Job Duties:
- Provide design and architecture guidance for computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks to facilitate network orchestration and automation.
- Design, plan, procure, install, configure, program, administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and document network and IT services and equipment.
- Develop and maintain scripts for network monitoring systems leveraging REST and other API methodologies.
- Participate as part of a team in installation, configuration, testing, optimization, troubleshooting, documentation, and repair of network devices in enterprise, datacenter, and service provider environments; administration and maintenance of Linux virtual server systems used for network operations; and multi-campus wireless LAN Systems.
- Maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art networking and telecommunications technologies, costs, and user needs to formulate plans, justifications, and specifications for network projects and advising management.
- Maintain an understanding of enterprise authentication methods and protocols and aid with integration of enterprise authentication, network systems, and network access control.
- Maintain a functional understanding of network security and implement effective security measures in the larger networked environment.
- Develop and maintain suitable documentation on all aspects of networking and telecommunications.
- Be available on a 24-hour on-call basis for solving network and data communications-related problems, which may include driving a company vehicle to a field site to perform assessment and/or repair.
- Develop Ansible playbooks and use Python network programming, NetBox, and git to implement and operate an automated multi-vendor network that includes routing and switching on Cisco and Juniper platforms.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Primary Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related field; and 2 years of experience as a Network Systems Engineer or similar job title.
Other Special Skills or Requirements: Position also requires functional expertise (2 years’ experience) in routing and switching on Cisco and Juniper platforms, developing Ansible playbooks, Python network programming, NetBox, and git.
May work from home a few days a week from within commuting distance to UCAR.
Offered salary range between $71,198 and $110,000 per year.
