Job Title: Assistant Professor of Philosophy

Job Duties: Teach courses within the department with a workload distribution of 80% teaching (4-4 teaching load) and 20% service. Teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Philosophy, in both a traditional and online setting. Participate in department, college, and/or community service activities. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.
Courses taught may include PHIL 100, Introduction to Philosophy; PHIL 150, Moral Issues; and PHIL 233, Modern Philosophy.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education Requirements: Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy. Employer will accept All But Dissertation (ABD).
Other Special Skills or Requirements: Position also requires demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching philosophy broadly construed and/or Philosophy of Science. Demonstrated potential to develop teaching competence in Non-Western Philosophy, Applied Ethics, and formal logic.
Offered salary range: $59,000-$61,000 per year. Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges.
