Job Title: Assistant Professor, Graphic Design/Digital Art

Job Duties: Teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Art and Design. Teaching load is three courses per semester in the Graphic Design area, with the possibility of teaching Studio Art area digital and/or design-related classes. Teach and apply creative skills in core undergraduate graphic design coursework including design thinking, design systems, user experience/user interface, typography for print and web, identity design, and motion graphics. Participate in professional, university, and community service. Courses taught may include 3D Design, Intro to Motion Graphics, Typography, Graphic Design Capstone, Interactive Design, and Graphic Design I & II. Utilize traditional and emerging design theory with a demonstrated command of current design processes and media; time-based media (still and moving images); UX/UI design (interactive web and mobile media); human-computer interaction (emerging technology: AR, VR; current HCI design/method/research processes, issues); and 3D design (sculpture) and fabrication, and other tools, skills, technologies, and standards in carrying out assigned duties.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Primary Education: MFA in Graphic Design/Visual Communications, Digital Media Art and Design, Master of Graphic Design or closely related field.
Other Special Skills or Requirements: Position also requires demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching university courses in graphic design. Working knowledge (6 months’ work experience or 1 post-secondary course using) of traditional and emerging design theory with a demonstrated command of current design processes and media; time-based media (still and moving images); UX/UI design (interactive web and mobile media); human-computer interaction (emerging technology: AR, VR; current HCI design/method/research processes, issues); and 3D design (sculpture) and fabrication.
Offered salary range $54,000 to $58,000 per year. Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges.
