Assistant Professor of Sociology sought by Colorado State University Pueblo to work in Pueblo, Colorado.
Job duties: Tenure Track Assistant Professor to teach undergraduate sociology and criminology courses, including in the areas of deviance, race & gender, and social justice. Teaching responsibilities include preparing and presenting course materials; evaluating student outcomes and participating in student retention efforts; selecting and ordering texts/readings/resources; preparing, administering and grading assignments; utilizing the learning management system; and assigning final grades. Responsibilities include proposing curriculum changes and program modifications to the Department Chair and supporting the Center for Integrated Health and Human Inquiry through participation in curricular integration, cross-disciplinary collaboration in teaching and scholarship, and creation of experiential learning activities and community partnerships involving students in meaningful projects that integrate interests in health and human inquiry; and building and maintaining a focused research agenda including presenting scholarship at professional conferences, conducting research, and publishing work in peer-reviewed publications. Research activity may involve grant writing and securing grant funding for research projects. Other duties include serving as faculty mentor/advisor for sociology/criminology majors and participating in student recruitment and retention activities; engaging in professional scholarly activity; contributing to program assessment and development and curriculum review and revision; and participating in department, college, and university level service on committees and boards, community involvement, consulting, and discipline-relevant professional service. The standard teaching load is 12 credits per semester. Sample courses to be taught include Research Methods; Criminological Theory; Cross Cultural Perspective on Crime; Race & Crime; Crime and Justice Studies; Women and Crime; Serial Murder; Terrorism; and Mass Murder.
Requirements include:
- Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field, or ABD in Sociology or a closely related field;
- Experience (1 academic semester) in teaching Sociology, criminology, deviance, race & gender, and social justice courses at the college level;
- Demonstrated experience mentoring/advising undergraduate students;
- Demonstrated ability to develop and modify curriculum and provide online and blended instruction; and
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in maintaining a program of scholarship and publication and providing service to the department, college, and university.
