Job Title:  Site Lead (Farm & Ranch)

Job Duties: 

Plan, direct, and coordinate daily operations of crop farming and cow-calf operations. Farming includes ~1,030 acres of irrigated crop ground (corn, alfalfa, small grains) and ranching includes 2,700 acres of dry land grass (~100-200 cows and calves). Supervise a team of 2-3 farmhands. Provide trainings to support workers.

Farming

Lead team engaged in planting, cultivating, applying, irrigating, harvesting, and storing of crops. Coordinate with owners on equipment purchasing, crop planning, and budgeting. Analyze soil to determine types or quantities of fertilizer required for maximum crop production. Coordinate yearly sampling of fields and manure for nutrient levels. Work with owners to purchase seed, fertilizer, and chemicals, and plan crop activities based on factors such as crop maturity or weather conditions. Harvest and store crops in a manner that helps meet cattle and dairy production goals. Oversee the application of dry manure and compost to fields. Oversee irrigation and haying activities. Steward farming equipment: be knowledgeable of equipment function, abilities, and constraints; continually inspect equipment condition; perform maintenance on equipment components and oversee other needed mechanical repairs; perform and oversee regular cleaning inside and outside of the equipment; and safely operate farm equipment.

Cow-Calf Operations

Monitor the health, nutrition, condition, and environment for cows and calves. Perform or direct cow and calf tagging, vaccinations, processing, calf banding, calf weaning, and record keeping. Direct breeding, treatment, calving, weaning, and processing of cows and calves. Monitor pasture or grazing land use to ensure that livestock are properly fed and that conservation methods are used. Oversee and maintain ranch structures such as water tanks, fences, and processing areas. Work with owners on animal movements in and out of the facility.

On call required for emergencies 7 days a week.

This is an hourly position based on 50-60 hours per week, ~6 days a week, with at least one full day off each week. Employer will abide by all current and future federal/state/local labor laws including, but not limited to, overtime pay rules.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Experience Requirements: 3 years (36 months) of crop farm management experience working in large-scale farming operations.

Other Special Skills or Requirements: 3 years of experience: managing farm or ranch support workers; overseeing irrigation plans and implementation; operating large farming equipment; serving in a mechanical role working on the maintenance and repair of farm and ranch equipment; and managing a 100-cow or larger grazing herd.  

On call required for emergencies 7 days a week.

Offered salary $34.39 per hour. Employer offers benefits including health insurance and paid vacation.
