Job duties: Tenure Track Assistant Professor to teach Event and Meeting Management courses and to cultivate a learning environment for industry-bound students, as well as students pursuing graduate studies, to build premier undergraduate and graduate programs within the department. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarly activities, and professional development through ongoing liaison and participation in local and national chapters of major event and meeting professional associations. Teaching responsibilities will combine classroom learning with experiential learning, and the position will effectively integrate technology (internet, social media, and teaching online) into course work, applied research, and advising. The standard teaching load includes up to 15 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring), which may include teaching evening and/or online classes. Professional development duties include developing and fostering relationships with meeting, event, and hospitality sectors of the economy, which will lead to professional opportunities for students as well as research outlets for School of Hospitality faculty. Other duties include advising at the undergraduate level, actively serving as faculty advisor to student organizations, providing service to the university and community, and fulfilling other assigned duties as requested by the department Chair.
Courses taught may include: Event Project Planning; Event Catering Systems; Trade Show and Exhibition Management; Special Event Production; Event and Meeting Contracting; Corporate Meetings, Global Meetings and Events; Event Support Systems (utilization of current meeting and event technology); Advanced Planning and Risk Management; and Talent Leadership.
Requirements: Ph.D. or ABD in Hospitality Management, Hospitality Administration or a closely related field (employer will accept ABD at time of appointment); and 1 year experience in event management.
Position also requires demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching both classroom-based and online courses at the undergraduate level; and active membership in at least one national/international professional event or meeting association.
